Refining Balance Is HERE!

I started out as a beta reader for Author T.M. Witko, then became her P.A., and later co-wrote with her. In this process, I learned how to map out stories and create new worlds. While working with her, I realized that I had some stories to tell of my own, and once that thought hit me, it wouldn’t leave my brain.

I was told that your first few stories should be about something you know, so it is fitting that my first published story is about a dancer. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I danced in both modern and culturally based styles. At first, it was just for fun, then it became more. It became a part of who I am and how I process my feelings and thoughts.

I danced at a Let’s Dance Studio in Bismarck, North Dakota. There, I learned about teamwork, camaraderie, and sisterhood. I adored all of my dance sisters. I also learned how to teach dance and choreography. It was from them that I learned to love the spotlight and the stage, as I would perform in productions and compete in regional and national dance competitions. This story is a reflection of the passion and love I learned over the years.

For any of my former Let’s Dance sisters, don’t worry, none of you are directly linked in this story, although I do have a funny spot about lighting, which reminded me of Jenny and Bailey. And, well, my cover model is the lovely Jada Lange, with whom I danced with for many years. Also, the director I had in mind for this story was one of my favorite choreographers, Thomas Archey, because I thought he could totally run a New York high-end studio putting on innovative new productions.

This story takes place during a new off-Broadway musical/dance production in New York. Muriel is a naturally talented ballerina who hasn’t found her voice yet, and Kymee is a vibe and falls fast. Kymee danced professionally with major musical artists (think Taylor Swift or Dua Lupa’s backup dancers) but now wants to get back to her roots after years away from the stage.

While I have read lots of fan fiction as well as author T.M. Witko’s stories, Refining Balance is a very sweet love story between two amazing women who find their place together. I hope you like it, and please forgive any awkward sexual references. My Pan-romantic demisexual self was like, ” I think this is how it goes,” but eventually decided to have fun with the story.
